Ok, great news! Andreas Pihlström (Suprb) have today launched his new type foundry. It’s called Subtype (former Typisc). Subtype is shorten of ‘Suprb’s Typography’. All his great typefaces will be available here and not surprisingly the site looks darn hot! Well done.

Nick Cooke (Olicana, Chevin, Precious) has completed his long-awaited Houschka Rounded typeface, a softer new companion to the original Houschka family launched in 1999. The new 6 weight family (Thin, Light, Medium, DemiBold, Bold, ExtraBold) retains the same humanist qualities of the original typeface, a design which is elegant, clean, effortlessly legible and yet full of character. Houschka has already branded the likes of Cadbury Schweppes and Tesco.

In 1980, the Haas type foundry, birthplace of Helvetica, contracted Team’77 to audit the Helvetica typeface and reissue an improved version. Team’77, consisting of André Gürtler, Erich Gschwind and Christian Mengelt, set out to “correct” common issues found in grotesk typefaces.

Click here to view scans of a promotional publication by Team’77 outlining the strategy and realization of Haas Unica. Presently, the Linotype and Scangraphic foundries both claim ownership of the type family and thus, Haas Unica is commercially unavailable.

Underware is a graphic design studio which is specialized in designing and producing typefaces. These are often conventional in terms of legibility - yet functional, having concepts that seek for new visual, typographic and linguistic possibilities. These typefaces are published for retail sale or are custom designed.

The company was founded in 1999 by Akiem Helmling, Bas Jacobs and Sami Kortemäki. We are based in Den Haag, Helsinki and Amsterdam.
